Introduction:

Did you know that you don't need a mouse to use Windows? Although this is true, it is obviously recommended to use one, but there are times when your fingers are already on the keyboard, so it is much quicker to use the keyboard than go find that mouse under all those papers, click and then place those fingers back on the keyboard.

Here are a couple of shortcuts that I use all the time ..... hopefully you will benefit from them.

Shortcuts:

Keyboard Shortcut Description
ALT+TAB
(keep your finger on the ALT key and press TAB)
My favourite! This will take you to another program running on your computer. For example, you are reading this web page and you also have Microsoft Word running. Press ALT+TAB, and a small window appears, keep pressing TAB (with your finger still on ALT) until the Microsoft Word icon is highlighted, release ALT and Microsoft Word will appear.
ALT+F4 This is the same as clicking on File, Exit. It will close the current window / application. Obviously use with care.
TAB

When filling out a form - whether it be a database application or in Internet Explorer, TAB will move from one field to the next. This will save you a bundle of time as I see users fill in a field, and then click on the next field, fill it in, click on the next and so forth ......check it out with these two fields. Click on the first, and then press TAB.

Click in this first field
Press Tab to go from this field to the one above to this one

SHIFT+TAB Can be tiring on the fingers this one, but it works the opposite of TAB, it will take you back to the previous field.
